[FEAR OF THE OCEAN]

‘The gods simply ask for new Players to have no unfair advantages Blessed One.

Your teeth, the skin you bare openly, your eyes, the poison in your blood.

These are true blessings from the techno-gods of the pre-flood.

The ones they turned to dust.’

[Priestess Glauglau talking to Player-Candidate Carissa Acqua. Drowned World.]

I wanted to become a Mermaid, a true being capable of living in the oceans of my homeworld and living freely.

Through self-experimentation, masses of money and illegal science I was able to change my body through a mixture of technology and genetic alteration.

My body and mind were perfect, designed to live under the cold waters of my home planet of Belphus.

As I was preparing to leave I was taken from my world by insane otherworldly beings calling themselves Ocean Gods.

In their desire to make more of their kind, they drowned an entire planet, killed most of the population and turned the dead into constructs for their testing scenarios. They call them NPCs. I think some of them are aware.

In their fear of me they shut down my cybernetic implants, reduced my genetic advantages and forced me to join their game. Technology is evil in the eyes of the Drowned Gods.

Some of them hate me, and some support me. Unless they manage to drown me first I’m going to dry them out.

My name is Carissa. I am a freshly recruited Player-Candidate on this Dead Flooded world.

Fear me.
